Catskill Mountain Views

Catskill Mountain Views Collection

The Catskills were extensively logged in the 19th and 20th Centuries, so much so that whole mountains were left bare and wide open, the views must have been amazing. Now, only 100 years later you have to work hard to find a big view, the mountains have rewilded themselves.

As a photographer it is frustrating to hike in a green tunnel with only tantalizing glimpses of the landscape beyond, but it does mean that when you do get to an opening it is something to be savored. Many of these images have been taken at either end of the day at either sunset or sunrise when the light is at it’s most nuanced.
