Rands View, Appalachian Trail, Connecticut

5.5 miles - out and back

1100ft elevation gain

Rands View on the Appalachian Trail is a spectacular destination located in the quiet northwestern corner of Connecticut. The trail can provide an unexpected workout as it steadily meanders uphill towards Prospect Mountain which tops out at 1286ft. Once there you will find a smooth rocky platform that makes a pleasant spot for a short but much needed break whilst you take in the pleasant easterly view. Once you leave Prospect Mountain there is another mile to walk through the forest until you reach the magnificent and totally unexpected Rands View. You emerge from the dark forest onto a huge meadow with an endless vista that takes in the Taconic Mountains and the Berkshires. Even further away you can see the profile of Mount Greylock the highest mountain in Massachusetts as well as the distant layers of Vermont’s Green Mountains.
